How do I contact my local Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) office?

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is the accounting firm of the Department of Defense (DoD). DFAS is also the world’s largest finance and accounting operation. Service members, Military Civilian Employees and Retirees can resolve various pay issues by contacting DFAS.

How can I get my military awards and medals replaced?

Request for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations, and awards should be directed to the specific branch of the military in which the veteran served.

However, please note that for Air Force, Army Air Corps, and Army personnel, the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) will verify the awards to which a veteran is entitled and forward the request with the verification to the appropriate service department for issuance of the medal.

In general, there is no charge to replace a medal or award. The processing time for replacement varies depending upon which branch of the military is sending out the replacement.

The Standard Form 180 (SF-180), "Request Pertaining to Military Records," is recommended for requesting medals and awards. It is important to provide as much information as possible on the form before submitting it to the appropriate branch. You can download the form by visiting vetrecs.archives.gov.
