Once again, Virginia families are experiencing rising prices at the pump.  Rep. Drake believes that in order to break this cycle, a long-term comprehensive solution is needed that incorporates new technologies, encourages conservation and addresses the critical shortfalls in our domestic energy resources.

It is important that Congress show leadership on an issue that affects not only consumers but our nation's economic and global security as well.  In the meantime, this page is intended as a resource to help residents of Virginia's Second Congressional District save money in the face of rising gas prices.

Energy legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Drake that support new technologies, promote conservation and encourage the development of our domestic energy resources.

H.R. 370 - Coal-to-Liquid Promotion Act of 2007
The Coal-to-Liquids Fuel Promotion Act of 2007 is a three-part bill that will promote the construction of coal-to-liquids plants.  The bill offers tax incentives for investment and production, as well as improves our domestic energy security by promoting the use of coal-to-liquids fuels by the U.S. military and as a component of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

H.R. 539 - Building for the 21st Century Act
Increases the tax deduction for enegy efficient commercial building costs and extends those deductions through 2013.

H.R. 2279
Legislation to expedite the construction of new refining capacity on closed military installations in the United States.

H.R. 2784 - National Environment and Energy Development Act
Enhances the nation's environmental, energy, economic, and national security by terminating long-standing federal prohibitions on the domestic production of abundant offshore supplies of natural gas, while dedicating a fixed percentage of the royalties towards environmental restoration projects, renewable energy and carbon sequestration research, and energy assistance for those in need, and to share a portion of such royalties with producing States.

Increases the corporate average fuel economy standards for automobiles and promotes the domestic development and production of advanced technology vehicles.
